In the city of Marion, Poppy's donuts are a delight to many people. My team and I worked to represent Poppy's in a fresh, fun, and personable way without seeming intimidating or trendy. The shop itself is loaded with a quirky sense of a small town family. Our aim was to keep that sensibility of welcome warm colors, while showing a side of Poppy's that also relates that feeling to those who are not familiar with it.
The redesign involved a new structure for their shop layout and a new three paneled menu system that would display their product and prices for more clearly than the tight handwritten chalkboard they'd used before. The mark and color palette were based in the concept of the common image of the pink frosted and sprinkled donut. By creating a bright but more gender neutral orange-pink, we knew the combination of type and color would make a sense of nostalgia in the largely older target audience. We fully integrated a friendly sprinkled pattern and gave options for different combinations of the icons and Neutraface typeface. It was a delight to work with our local eatery and make a positive impact on our community.
